Biography

Yiannis Maramathas is a composer, sound artist, and performer. His practice ranges from concert music and audiovisual art to music for theatre and dance performances. Following his graduation from the department of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (National Technical University of Athens), he completed a master’s degree in Composition for Performing Arts at the Ionian University with excellence. From 2018-2021, he further completed a master’s degree in Composition at the Royal College of Music with distinction. His works have been performed in Athens and London, and he has collaborated with the Greek Contemporary Music Ensemble, the New Perspectives Ensemble, the East London Music Group, the Ionian Festival Ensemble, etc. His recent works include his first opera, commissioned by the Royal College of Music and Tête à Tête, vocal compositions and sound art performances commissioned by the Greek National Opera. In early 2024, he played the piano for the National Theatre of Greece’s production of “The Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder, directed by Thomas Moschopoulos. For this production, he recomposed several old ragtime piano pieces and created original music. His current work includes live sound manipulation and processing for the award-winning theatre production Aiautos at Sfendoni Theatre (dir. Haris Fragoulis), which received the Best Music Award and the Best Production Award in 2025 from the Hellenic Association of Theatre and Performing Arts Critics.
